LEAD Ships Next-Generation Dry Electrode Coating Equipment for High-Volume Production

Lead Intelligent has successfully delivered its next-generation dry electrode coating equipment to a leading global lithium-ion battery manufacturer. Designed for high-volume industrial production, the system has earned strong customer recognition for its production stability, high yield and throughput. The newly delivered platform represents a major architectural upgrade developed specifically for large-scale manufacturing. It incorporates a multi-dimensional intelligent control system that enables inline adjustment of roll pressure, speed, temperature and roll gap. It also delivers industry-leading temperature-control performance.

A New Equipment Architecture for Industrial-Scale Production

Greater Stability and Process Adaptability for High-Volume Manufacturing

To meet the demands of high-speed, high-precision and high-yield continuous production, LEAD has carried out multiple rounds of optimization, building on the proven design principles of its existing production architecture while addressing process challenges identified in real-world manufacturing environments. The new architecture helps bridge a long-standing gap between laboratory-scale dry-electrode processes and industrial-scale manufacturing. Combining years of engineering validation with upgraded core performance, the system is designed for continuous, high-volume production of EV battery and solid-state battery electrodes, significantly improving process adaptability and production stability.

Building on the upgraded architecture, LEAD has achieved end-to-end process control in dry-electrode manufacturing. Temperature can be controlled independently for each roll throughout the system, while pressure between rolls can be adjusted independently and tuned in-line during production. Process parameters can be switched and optimized without stopping the line, significantly improving commissioning efficiency. The system can support both R&D and pilot production of emerging dry-electrode materials and stable high-volume manufacturing across a broad range of electrode materials, providing substantial production flexibility.

Multi-Dimensional Intelligent Control

Raising the Bar for Yield and Throughput

Solid-state battery electrode materials can pose processing challenges, including electrode cracking, powder shedding and non-uniform forming. To address these issues, the new-generation equipment incorporates a dedicated intelligent multi-variable control system. The system continuously monitors dozens of critical parameters, including roll pressure, roll gap and film-forming temperature, and dynamically fine-tunes production parameters in-line. AI algorithms analyze process and adjustment data, optimize production logic and feed insights back into process control, helping maintain electrode uniformity and structural integrity while reducing defect rates. The combination of the upgraded equipment architecture and AI-enabled process control delivers a significant improvement in overall equipment performance.

The system supports electrode thicknesses from 40 μm to 400 μm and product widths of up to 1,000 mm, supporting an equivalent annual battery production capacity of 5–8 GWh per line. These capabilities provide a robust manufacturing platform for high-volume production of advanced batteries.

LEAD’s solid-state battery and dry-electrode manufacturing equipment has already been delivered in volume to leading battery manufacturers and automotive companies across Europe, the United States, Japan and South Korea. Its stable performance in high-volume production has driven continued customer recognition and repeat orders. The dry electrode coating equipment also received the “Best Equipment Award of the Year” during this year’s battery and energy storage exhibition in South Korea. The successful shipment of the next-generation equipment further reinforces LEAD’s leading position in the global dry-electrode equipment market.

Looking ahead, LEAD will continue to invest in intelligent lithium-ion battery manufacturing, combining proprietary innovation with experience from high-volume production to continuously improve equipment performance. The company aims to help battery manufacturers improve quality, increase productivity and reduce manufacturing costs, while accelerating the industrialization and global adoption of dry-electrode technology.
